Hughes Band Directors
Mr. Jim Dixon - Head Director
Mr. Dixon is in his 17th year at Hughes Middle School. Before
that, he taught in Arlington, Mansfield and Joshua. He teaches
beginning flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, oboe, and bassoon. He
also teaches the Advanced Band and Concert Band. Mr. Dixon
graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with a Bachelors in
trombone performance as well as instrumental and choral
education. He has a Master of Church Music from Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary. He has been married to Melody
Dixon for 31 years and has two boys. Travis (23 years old) both
attends class and teaches tennis at Texas State University.
Tyler (20 years old) is majoring in illustration at the
Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Mr. Shane Johnson - Asst. Band Director
Mr. Johnson received his Bachelor of Music Education (2001) and
Master’s degree in Trombone Performance (2004) from Texas
Christian University. Prior to taking a job as a band director in Burleson, he
taught private low brass lessons in Azle ISD, Birdville ISD,
Burleson ISD, Crowley ISD, Fort Worth ISD, and Joshua ISD. At Hughes, his duties include teaching the beginning brass
classes, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. In addition to teaching (and fishing), Mr. Johnson is the
principal trombonist for the Brazos Chamber Orchestra, lead
trombonist of the M.O.B (Ministers of Brass) and an active
free-lance musician operating throughout the DFW metroplex.
