BANDS
The Hughes Middle School band students are separated into four different groups
Honors Band (advanced)
Placement in this band is based on playing ability,
behavior, and attitude. Students will be expected to practice
outside of class to prepare the challenging music. All students
will be expected to learn the All Region audition music.
Activities include the Homecoming Parade, concerts, band
contests, pep rallies, Band-on-the-Run, the annual lock-in,
Sandy Lake Funfest, the solo contest, and the All Star Band trip
to Schlitterbahn.
Symphonic Band (intermediate)
Students in this band will participate in concerts,
band contests, pep rallies, Band-on-the-Run, the annual lock-in,
the solo contest, and the All Star Band trip to Schlitterbahn.
Students may participate in All Region auditions.
Concert Band
Students in this band will concentrate on fundamentals
to improve their playing skills. Students may participate in
concerts, band contests, pep rallies, the All Star band trip to
Schlitterbahn, and other activities based on the individual and
group progress improvement and ability to play the music.
Beginning Band
Students in this group are primarily comprised of 6th
grade students. Students in the 6th grade beginning band may
choose to play flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet,
alto sax, trumpet (cornet), french horn, trombone, tuba, or
percussion. 7th grade beginning students may not choose
percussion. Activities may include concerts, band contests, solo
contest, Sandy Lake Funfest, and the All Star Band trip to
Schlitterbahn.
